That was great Rio! Very interesting, actually. I think I liked the French one best, but the German is a close second.

Apr 11, 2009 | Pronouncing President Obama

I’m a fan of the BBC world service radio because it keeps me up to date on happenings around the world while I can do other things like cleaning up my room. But lately I’ve heard several transgressions on the pronunciation of Barack Obama (listen to the first recording) and I wondered how other newsreaders and anchors were pronouncing his name, across the world. Here are my findings:

Female, British speaker. Pronounced by Irene McHugh.

Male, British speaker. Pronounced by Fergus Nicoll

Male, American speaker. From Inogolo.

Male, Japanese speaker, from NHK’s Closeup documentary series.

Female, French speaker, from France2.

Female, German speaker, from Welt TV

Male, French speaker, from BFMTV.

Male, Russian speaker, from BECTN.

Female, Italian speaker, from RAI TG1, Monica Maggioni.
